EDUCATION

The Rush Sports Medicine Fellowship Program is dedicated to providing advanced training and education in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries related to the athlete. Our mission is to prepare fellowship trainees to become experts in the field of sports medicine and to provide the highest quality of care to athletes of all levels.

We strive to create an environment that promotes professional development, critical thinking, and evidence-based practice. Our program emphasizes hands-on experience, clinical exposure, and research opportunities, to provide fellows with the skills and knowledge they need to excel as sports medicine specialists.

We are committed to fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion, and respect, and to providing the best possible care of the physical and mental well-being of our athletes. Our goal is to prepare leaders in sports medicine who will make a positive impact on the health and well-being of the athletes and the communities they serve.

While the clinical experience is the foundation of the educational mission, our fellows are also exposed to a rigorous didactic curriculum taught by our orthopedic surgery faculty once a week as well as primary care sports medicine lecture series once a week. . Many of the didactic lectures that are given to the fellows are the similar to the lectures that are presented at national and international meetings allowing our fellows the opportunity to learn high educational content that covers fundamentals of sports medicine as well as controversies and tips & tricks of the trade.

Surgical skills training is also an important aspect of the fellowship program. Local cadaver labs are supported by our industry partners as a key part of the fellowship training experience. The sports medicine fellow is also expected to be involved with courses at the Orthopedic Learning Center in Rosemont, Illinois either with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) or the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA). These courses provide the fellow with the opportunity to work as an instructor at the knee and shoulder courses, advancing their educational experience as well as providing them the opportunity to share their education.
