FELLOWSHIP

BRINGING FORTH THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS

The Rush Sports Medicine Fellowship Program is based at Rush University Medical Center and Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, located in Chicago. Our program was founded by Dr. Bernard Bach in 1989 and includes over 100 alumni throughout the United States and Canada.

Our program is an ACGME-accredited postgraduate orthopedic surgery sports medicine fellowship with positions available for five board eligible/board-certified orthopaedic surgeons.

The research experience is a critical component of the fellowship experience which includes basic science, translational and clinical research. The sports medicine fellows will collaborate with scientists and the entire research team.  The research infrastructure has been established to include departmental clinical repository, materials testing in the biomechanics laboratory, computer modeling and 3D printing, and a motion analysis laboratory using the cutting edge technology.

Our department has one of the best-funded orthopedic programs in the country, with multiple NIH and foundation grants as well as significant philanthropic support.

TOP-RANKED ORTHOPAEDIC DEPARTMENT

The sports medicine fellowship program is a high volume clinical fellowship with a balanced exposure to knee, hip, and shoulder surgery. During the average academic year, each fellow participates in 600-700+ cases with our sports medicine faculty. In addition, the office experience takes place in an efficiently run orthopedic practice in our flagship site on the Orthopedic Ambulatory Building at Rush University Medical Center campus as well as a number of surrounding satellite locations in the metropolitan Chicago area.

The clinical care also includes sports team coverage of the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Fire, DePaul University, Joffrey Ballet, Chicago Steel, Chicago Dogs, and other local high school and university teams.

INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED EXPERTS

Our faculty members are frequently invited to speak at international, national, and regional meetings as well as appointed leadership positions for American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM), Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), American Shoulder and Elbow Society (ASES), International Society of Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA), and Hip Society.

U.S. News & World Report ranks the orthopedic program at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, as No. 5 in the nation and it is the highest ranked program in Illinois. MOR has offices at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago; Joliet; Oak Park; Oak Brook; Naperville; and Northwest Indiana.
